Celebrating Spring with Kmart Products

It's not often that a large name brand company wants to reach out on a personal level. So I was excited to be invited with a small group of bloggers to meet Mark Snyder, Kmart's chief marketing officer, to hear what's new at Kmart, including new product like the Selena Gomez line, Jaclyn Smith 25th Anniversary and more.

Kmart Spring

Note: I was invited as media and received complementary lunch during an information session.

Some of the key points I learned while talking with Mark:
  • Kmart hopes more people will learn about Kmart Design, which includes a SOHO design center located in the NYC area. Kmart also wants more people to see that their "stylish: and "trend right" with designers that tap into the mainstream of fashion.
  • Kmart has a large number of brands not just low price points and great sales. Many of the designs are "bridge gaps". A birds nest in one country will inspire a design for a candle holder in another.
  • Growth in different departments are happening like the juniors section with "Dream Out Loud" collection by Selena Gomez. This collection will include junior sportswear, handbags, belts, scarves, hats, hair accessories and socks/hosiery. The collection will be available at Kmart stores and Kmart.com end of July 2010.
  • In September 2010 Kmart and Jaclyn Smith will celebrate 25 years together and will offer a special anniversary collection.
  • Kmart offers exclusive services that their competitors don't like... their layaway service. The layaway service is offered as a flexible payment option to help customers manage their budget. No need to break the wallet or run up credit card debit.

After Mark Snyder, Kmarts CMO, the group met with Shannelle Armstrong, SHC Director of Public Relations, who shared with us some new and upcoming changes for Kmart.
  • Kmart recognizes that with the recession many families are now on a budget. Kmart wants to remind customers that the quality of their products are better then most people think. Kmart offers top of the line quality along with low price points.
  • Kmart is also social media savvy. Coupons and deals are offered through Kmart.com while special sales notices are done via twitter.
  • Plans are in the works to update the Kmart.com website to showcase products better, easier navigation of brand selection and price filtering.
  • While Kmart does have a diverse demographic of customers they participation in programs that support the African American and Hispanic communities. In September for Hispanic Heritage Month, Sears Holdings will announce programming to celebrate and honor the Hispanic community.
  • Kmart will serve as a sponsor of the Blogalicious conference in October 8-10, 2010. The conference celebrates diversity in social media, bringing together multicultural bloggers from across the country.
So as you do your shopping for the spring and the rest of the year. Don't forget to check out the selections found at the Kmart stores or on Kmart.com. The company is really looking to connect with their customers by offering unexpected quality and price points.
