So spring is in the air, and I'm looking forward to the warmer weather and spending more time outside enjoying the sunshine.

As I'm starting to think about sundresses and changing my nail color to more spring/summer colors, I found out L'Occitane is also getting into the spirit of spring and recently introduced a new limited edition spring collection of makeup called Pivoine Flora.

According to the website, the collection is "inspired by the colors and scent of the Peony flower and the makeup collection contains a peony extract from the south of France. What makes the fragrance of the peony so distinctive is its lingering freshness, an almost rustic scent like freshly cut grass."

Products include:
  • Duo Eyeshadow ($16; available in 2 combinations)
  • Petals Eye Quartet ($26)
  • Healthy Glow Face Powder ($28)
  • Lipstick ($15; available in 4 shades)
  • Lip Shine ($14; available in 4 shades)
  • Incredible Lip Shine ($12)
  • Facecolor Cream Duo ($16; available in 3 shades)

I was lucky enough to be able try out two of their products: Pivoine Flora Color Cream Abricot and Pivoine Flora Lipstick Fuschia. Overall opinion, I think the price is mid-range and expected from a boutique label.

The lipstick went on very smoothly and felt moisturizing without being heavy and had a nice scented smell. I thought the color was a bit bright but it actually goes on a pretty sheer pink and would need several swipes to see a distinct color. I like this since I usually wear just gloss, but the past week I have been wearing it every day (work and parties) and like the fact that I still have some lip color by the end of the night!

Having a pretty fair skin complexion, when I saw the face color cream I expected it to be super bright or orange-y on my skin but surprisingly, combining both the apricot blush and golden beige went on with the barest hint of color! This product I actually love as i can easily blend the colors into my cheeks with my fingers rather than needing any makeup tools. It goes on smoothly and I really like the barest hint of cheek color and shimmer on my face. I have powder blush but after trying this face color I prefer the cream product instead!

While I think the product quality themselves are worth the money, I found the packaging to be a bit flimsy and not very secure. The packaging is pretty with a cardboard exterior and aluminum tube interior. The only downside was that the cap does not stay in place and fell off very easily - I worried what would happened if the top of the lipstick came off and lipstick got all over the inside of my purse.

For the face cream, again, I have issue with the packaging. It comes in a slim box that has a kind of light magnetic closure but I would also be concerned that any pressure on it could easily fall open.

Overall, I'll definitely continue using the makeup - I'm not sure if people can tell I was wearing the makeup (you decide if you can tell the difference in my pic!) when I go out so it's not for any dramatic evening looks - but it adds a bit of color which works for me.
