For a recent play date, my son and I met up with Scherrie of Thirty Mommy and her family for a visit to the Transit Museum. The last time my son and I was there was for the Kids Club 13 event when I was Mayor for the day. The Transit Museum is both fun and educational and we were over due to visit again.

The kids (and the moms!) had a great time enjoying the Transit Museum and the different exhibits.

We started with the Building New York's Subways exhibits where the kids enjoyed posing next to the wheel barrels and learning how the subway system was built.

At the next exhibits they learned about power, movement and electricity

Then we enjoyed visiting the different train cars and entry systems. It was amusing to talk with them about how the trains, maps and subways entry systems have changed over the years.

It was a fun day of learning about the transit system. Would you like to introduce your child to the transit system but think it's for older children? Then you'll be excited to learn about the Transit Tots program.

Every Thursday at 10:15 am beginning next week on July 11, the Transit Museum be offering a fun drop-in program for children ages 2-5 and their adult companions. The Transit Museum educators will lead art projects, stories, and games.

The program is offered complimentary with $5 children’s admission to the Museum, and no registration is required. After the program, participants and their caregivers are encouraged to explore the interactive exhibits on their own.

This summer, Transit Tots will focus on the vintage subway cars on the Museum’s platform level, giving kids the chance to bounce on the seats, hold the handrails, and travel back in time on trains dating back to 1904! A similar program is also offered specifically for special needs children ages 3-5 on Tuesday mornings.

As you can see the The Transit Museum is a great place to visit for all families. Make sure to stop by this summer!

The New York Transit Museum is located in a decommissioned subway station on the corner of Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street in Downtown Brooklyn. A wheelchair lift operated by Museum staff is available on the corner of Court Street and Schermerhorn Street. Please call (718) 694-1823 in advance for assistance.
