Going to Spy School with Johnny English Strikes Again

Being a top secret spy isn't easy. But after attending an advanced screening for the film "Johnny English Strikes Again", I had a chance to get some spy tips from Stiletto Spy School.

Note: I was invited as media to the movie screening and spy training event. However any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

While there's lots that goes into being a spy, the Stiletto Spy School focused on three specific areas for us to learn about. At each station groups went through practice drills to learn the skill.

While at first I was totally interested, when they mentioned that each station would take about 20mins to learn and get through, I changed my mind. HA!

Listen, I'm all for the thrill of being a spy but having to fight, or hide or be tied up for 20mins? Nah I'm good.

But after everyone had gone through spy training, I had the chance to meet with the spy expert at each section to get some tips. You know, just in case I actually do need to fight, hide or survive being tied up.

So the tips for each section.....

Now you see me, now you don't
  • Wear colors that blend into the background. Clothing can help hide or camouflage you.
  • Carry you body in a way not to stand out. If you are spotted or being searched for, change your "shape" by talking to someone or find an object to be associated with.
  • If your found or caught, use double distraction. Push the attention to something else, then distract from that with another louder more attention getting distraction. Then get away.

Zip ties, anyone?
  • Trying to vocally diffuse the situation. Talk in a calm and relatable manner.
  • If talking isn't getting you anywhere, then try to distract. Refocus the attention while you try to find ways out of being tired up.

Hand to hand combat
  • When being confronted move first and fast so they can't pin or hit you.
  • One way to avoid being hit or captured is by moving side to side, especially in close areas.
  • Use natural movements and keep moving around, especially behind your attacker.

What surprised me about these spy tips is now regular they are. No high tech gadgets or special martial arts move. I guess being a spy is all about being your natural self. Kinda something that Johnny English has done well in his movies, including the latest, Johnny English Strikes Again.

Once again Johnny English brings his natural style of unintentional humor as he tries to help solve a crime. For this film Johnny English is actually really good at the crime solving. When he gets back into MI7 and into full spy mode, there's not as many mishaps as usual, which was kinda nice to see. You can enjoy the movie even with a predicable storyline.

But that doesn't mean there's no moments of hilarity. One of my favorite scenes is when English tries out a virtual reality to learn the layout of the criminals homes. Then there's a dance scene where English busts out some interesting dance moves while avoiding another criminal agent. The results of both scenes is classic Johnny English and will leave you laughing in your seat.

Overall Johnny English Strikes Again is great for families looking for a film that's a good blend of humor, a little adventure and easy to watch.
